Thursday!
Today we had a very strict sub (Ms.McFarley). We worked on Current Events until Library. After recess, we had Music, where we played a game. In the game, everyone wrote down a secret name. The names would be read aloud, and we would guess who's name was who's. That person whose name had been identified would join the guesser's team. Morgan got over half the class on his team! Good job! We also had our Lit. Circles. The sub had to tell some of us off for laughing (?) as we finished the day. Izzy

Netbooks Are Coming!
Great news! I had a meeting with the district last week, and our netbooks will be here after Winter Break (January 4, 2010) and SHOULD be here Friday, December 11. The class is very excited about getting to use these in the classroom, and at some point down the road, taking them home in the evenings as well. The netbooks we will have are Viewsonic VNB102. Below is a picture and the link to the specs.

Right now we have decided on two storage solutions. The 5th graders will be using Rubbermaid tubs to store their netbooks, and the 6th graders will use magazine files. We will see by the end of January, 2010 which solution works better for our classroom. Check out the photos below:

Tuesday!
Today we started our morning with some computer lab time to work on our social studies diary entries, where we write diary entries in the point of view of a Mayflower passenger. You can find the full details on this website under the tab Classroom Projects; Mayflower Diary Entries. Ask your child who they picked as the person to write as and if there are any interesting facts about them. During P.E. we had Mr. Andrews , the karate teacher, come. Many people brought boots today (including me), so please remember to wear more appropriate clothing on P.E. days (Tuesdays and Fridays). After Literature Circles, Mr. Manegold announced the exciting news that we have all been waiting for: The Netbooks are arriving soon! He has to go to a meeting tonight from 3:30 to 6:15, and he asked us for ideas of why the Netbooks will prove to be useful. Ask your child what he or she thought of the Netbooks, and what others thought too. Tomorrow book report groups Vermont and Maryland have book reports. Don't forget!
